Founder Of City Pickle

Reid Jarjosa is a high school junior from Detroit, Michigan, recognized for his significant contributions to youth development through sports. In 2022, he founded City Pickle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging children aged 5 to 17 in pickleball—a rapidly growing sport in the United States. City Pickle collaborates with Detroit Parks and Recreation and the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan to offer structured programs that promote physical activity, teamwork, and confidence among participants. Under Reid’s leadership, City Pickle has trained over 3,000 children across 10 locations, providing both summer and after-school programs.

 

The organization focuses on personal growth by teaching values such as perseverance and healthy competition. Reid’s dedication to expanding these programs aims to foster community spirit and encourage healthy lifestyles in underserved neighborhoods. In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Reid is an active student-athlete. He participates in cross country and lacrosse at Detroit Country Day High School in Beverly Hills, Michigan. Reid’s commitment to community service and youth empowerment has been recognized by various organizations, including Points of Light, which honored him as a Daily Point of Light Award recipient in October 2024.

Alise Dixon - Chief Programs Officer at Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM)

Alise Dixon is a dedicated professional with a rich background in education and youth development. Originally from Cleveland, OH, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Wright State University and a Masters in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. Over the past 17 years, Alise has been deeply involved with the Boys & Girls Club movement, starting in Dayton, Ohio as a part-time Dance Instructor and advancing to roles such as Education Director, where she developed and implemented impactful educational initiatives.

Her career took a significant turn when she became the Operations Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs in Amarillo, Texas, where she expanded the organization’s reach from one location to thirteen across four school districts. Alise then served as the National Director of Quality Improvement & Member Engagement for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, leading national initiatives to enhance program quality. Currently, as the Chief Program Officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Alise shapes the organization’s programmatic strategy, ensuring young people are equipped for success in their careers, entrepreneurship, and home-ownership. Her extensive experience and unwavering dedication continue to empower and uplift communities across the nation.

Rosemary O'Connor - Chief Programs Officer at Racquet Up Detroit

Rosemary O'Connor is the Chief Programs Officer at Racquet Up Detroit, where she has been an integral part of the team since 2014. With a decade of experience at Racquet Up, Rosemary has played a key role in helping the organization fulfill its mission of supporting and empowering Detroit youth so they can achieve their full potential through a long-term, demanding, and inspiring mentoring program of squash, academics, and opportunities.

Rosemary looks forward to contributing her experience and insights to City Pickle, supporting their vision to grow and help communities throughout the country engage in healthy, active, and social recreation through pickleball. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys playing pickleball, which has deepened her appreciation for the sport.
